ROLE OBJECTIVE:


The Registered Nurse (CAP RN 1) position serves as an entry-level role within the Clinical Advancement Program for Registered Nurses.

The CAP RN 1 is tasked with delivering and coordinating high-quality clinical care, which includes assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation for a designated group of patients.


As a vital member of the Kidney Disease healthcare team, the CAP RN 1 engages in decision-making, educational initiatives, leadership roles, and quality improvement efforts aimed at enhancing patient care outcomes and operational efficiency.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:


All duties must be performed in alignment with Fresenius Kidney Care policies, procedures, and applicable regulations.


Under the supervision of the Program Manager (PM) and with support from the Educator or Preceptor, the RN will execute essential functions during the initial six months of employment.


It is expected that the RN will fulfill the necessary criteria to progress to the next CAP level within 24 months of hire.


Conduct systematic collection and analysis of patient data before, during, and after treatment, documenting findings in the medical record, adjusting treatment plans as necessary, and notifying relevant healthcare team members.


Identify and report any deviations from normal patient status to appropriate team members, including the manager and primary nurse.

Assess daily patient care needs and collaborate with other healthcare staff as required.

Deliver safe and effective patient care as per prescribed treatment protocols.


Facilitate communication with both FKC and non-FKC dialysis providers to ensure continuity of care.

Administer medications as directed and in compliance with contractual agreements.

Ensure that nephrology physician orders are accurately recorded in the medical record.

Document all treatment data thoroughly and promptly in the designated medical record.


Oversee the implementation and monitoring of patient responses to prescribed treatments, including notifying physicians of any adverse reactions.


Familiarize oneself with emergency policies and procedures to effectively respond to emergencies.

Delegate appropriate tasks to support staff, including LVN/LPNs and Patient Care Technicians.

Monitor staff adherence to established protocols and safety standards.

Promote infection control and maintain a safe environment.

Assess and document patient and family educational needs to provide ongoing education.

Instruct facility staff on specialized care related to renal therapies.

Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to update nursing assessments and care plans for assigned patients.

Engage in quality assurance activities, including monthly reporting as directed.

Serve as a resource for the healthcare team and assist in training new staff as needed.

Participate in scheduled staff meetings.

May assist in outpatient facilities on an as-needed basis.

Support and uphold the mission, vision, values, and customer service philosophy of FMCNA.

Perform additional duties as assigned by management within regulatory standards.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:


The physical demands and environmental conditions described are representative of those encountered while performing essential job functions.

This position involves direct patient care, which may require heavy lifting and assistance with patient mobility. Equipment and coworker support may be available. Frequent standing and bending are required.

The employee may occasionally need to move equipment weighing up to 200 lbs. and lift supplies weighing up to 30 lbs.

The work environment is typical of a healthcare facility, with controlled air temperature and moderate noise levels. Exposure to infectious materials may occur.


Essential functions may be required in various locations with similar physical demands and conditions.

Daily tasks include desk work, computer use, and interaction with patients and healthcare staff.

Travel between assigned facilities and attendance at regional meetings may be necessary.

Participation in an on-call rotation is required.

SUPERVISION:
Oversight of Patient Care Technicians/LPNs may be assigned after:

Successful completion of all required training and education, including:

Minimum of 9 months of RN experience and

6 months of dialysis experience.

EDUCATION:
Graduate of an accredited nursing program.

Current state nursing licensure.

Must meet practice requirements in all states of employment.

EXPERIENCE AND REQUIRED SKILLS:


Entry-level position for RNs with less than 2 years of nephrology nursing experience or RNs with a BSN and less than 1 year of nephrology experience.

Minimum of 9 months of RN experience is preferred.

6 months of nephrology experience is required before independent practice.

6 months of dialysis experience is necessary for on-call duties.

Experience in hemodialysis or ICU settings is preferred.

Completion of FKC education and training requirements is mandatory.

Maintain CPR BLS Certification.

Meet all employment conditions, including color vision testing.

Complete all annual training and competency requirements.

Engage in ongoing training as required.
