Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Traffic Engineer to join our team at the City of Atlanta. As a key member of our transportation department, you will be responsible for providing administrative and technical support in various areas, including permitting, plan review, traffic safety, and traffic operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review traffic control plans, permit applications, and other pertinent information to ensure accuracy and compliance with established codes, ordinances, policies, and procedures.
  • Coordinate the issuance of lane/road closure, sidewalk closure, and other related permits.
  • Collaborate with inspectors to schedule inspections and maintain computer files on permits and related documents.
  • Investigate traffic problems and recommend methods to improve traffic flow and safety.
  • Provide guidance and training to lower-level staff and assign work to other professionals.

Requirements:

  • Knowledge of engineering principles and practices associated with MUTCD (Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices).
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering plans, specifications, and technical reports.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently under stress and meet deadlines as required.
