Assistant State Signal Engineer

Job Summary: As a key member of the GeorgiaGov team, we are seeking a highly skilled Assistant State Signal Engineer to provide expert professional support in traffic operations. This role will serve as the point of contact and lead engineer for one of six regions, overseeing day-to-day operations and contracts. The selected candidate will be responsible for managing a team of engineers, developing and reviewing maintenance requests, and ensuring consistency throughout the state.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- Coordinate with consultant teams on contracts and districts for traffic signal maintenance and operation needs.
- Develop and review maintenance requests, traffic signal plans, and improvements to timing and operation.
- Monitor ATSPMs in the region and develop and review documentation for training and statewide consistency.
- Manage and track budgets and invoices, and develop and implement new initiatives and policies.
- Supervise subordinates and provide training to lower-level staff.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in a related field and three years of job-related experience.
- Associate's degree in a related field and four years of job-related experience.
- One year of experience at a position equivalent.
Agency Specific Qualifications:
- Foreign degrees require a completed Equivalency Evaluation by NCEES along with the official transcript.
- Possess a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Civil Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited college or university and two years of related experience.
- Possess an EIT.
- Demonstrated knowledge of traffic engineering, signal operation, timing, and design requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze data to make operational or design decisions.
- Demonstrated experience analyzing and formulating solutions to complex design problems.
- Demonstrated experience preparing and reviewing clear, organized written engineering documentation and reports.
- Demonstrated ability to manage a contract, project, or program.
- Demonstrated ability to track and manage a budget.
- Demonstrated ability to organize work and manage conflicting deadlines.
- Demonstrated experience working independently and in a team environment.
Agency Preferred Qualifications:
- Possesses PE (certification as a Professional Engineer).
- Demonstrated ability to manage and train entry-level engineers.
- Demonstrated ability to define and implement engineering solutions.
- Possess strong oral communication skills.
- Demonstrated experience interacting with management, the public, and local and state government officials.
- Demonstrated experience working and communicating with supervisors, local officials, engineering consultants, and other Department of Transportation offices.
- Negotiates effectively with internal and external clients.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the organizational structure, policies, rules, and regulations of the Georgia Department of Transportation.
