Key Responsibilities:

The Veterinary Specialist will undertake all responsibilities associated with a licensed veterinarian, delivering compassionate and high-quality veterinary services to a diverse array of animals affected by cruelty, neglect, and those at risk.

Schedule:

Work from Sunday to Wednesday, 9 AM to 7 PM.

Primary Duties:

Responsibilities encompass, but are not limited to:

Medical Case Management (80%):
  • Deliver high-quality veterinary care to a variety of animals suffering from cruelty and neglect.
  • Conduct medical intakes for all new cases admitted through law enforcement and community engagement.
  • Formulate effective diagnosis and treatment plans in accordance with established medical guidelines.
  • Perform examinations, diagnostic tests, and treatments while employing Fear Free handling techniques.
  • Provide individualized care while adhering to population health practices.
  • Maintain comprehensive medical records documenting all findings and treatments.
  • Ensure the veterinary team practices Fear Free handling methods.
  • Collaborate with partner hospitals for advanced care and assess the medical stability of new cases.
  • Guide veterinary interns and fellows in their clinical responsibilities.
  • Oversee daily census management and ensure effective use of quarantine protocols.
  • Assess medical prognosis and make informed euthanasia decisions in accordance with established protocols.
  • Address after-hours medical concerns as necessary.
  • Keep the leadership team informed about patient progress and case flow.
Education and Mentorship (20%):
  • Collaborate with partner departments to enhance overall operations.
  • Provide exceptional customer service to both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Participate in daily rounds to ensure timely assessments and interventions.
  • Contribute to a culture of learning and improvement within the organization.
  • Assist in training veterinary interns and fellows during their rotations.
  • Adhere to ASPCA and departmental standard operating procedures.
  • Participate in staff meetings and contribute to special projects as needed.

Compensation and Benefits:

Compensation will be determined based on various factors, including education, experience, and market conditions. The expected salary range for this position is competitive and includes a signing bonus.
