Job Summary

Akumin is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Patient Care Coordinator to join our team. As a Patient Care Coordinator, you will play a vital role in ensuring a positive patient experience by providing exceptional customer service and patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Greets and assists patients, customers, and visitors in person and over the phone in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Performs patient registration in various systems and ensures accuracy of patient records.
  • Answers all phone calls in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Collects monies for time-of-service patient responsibility and verifies insurance coverage.
  • Obtains prior authorization and assists with patient transfer and transportation.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Provides preliminary and post-procedure instructions to patients.
  • Maintains a clean and organized work area and orders supplies as needed.
  • Ensures accurate documentation of patient visits in various electronic systems and on written documents.
  • Assists clinical staff with documentation and image delivery to patients, physicians, and customers.
  • Performs all duties within HIPAA regulations.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent experience required.
  • CPR Certification must be obtained prior to hire for Mobile Radiology and Oncology.
  • Valid state driver's license required for local travel to support multiple sites.
  • Strong customer service skills and organizational and multi-tasking abilities.
  • Basic knowledge of computer applications and programs.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Six months customer service or related experience and/or training.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology is a plus.
  • Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.
Physical Requirements

The employee may be exposed to outside weather conditions during transport of patients if working on a mobile unit. The employee may be exposed to a strong magnetic field or radioactive material. May be exposed to blood/body fluids and infectious disease and environmental hazards such as exposure to noise, and travel.

More than 50% of the time:

  • Sit, stand, walk.
  • Repetitive movement of hands, arms, and legs.
  • See, speak, and hear to be able to communicate with patients.

Less than 50% of the time:

  • Stoop, kneel, or crawl.
  • Climb and balance.
  • Carry and lift (ability to move non-ambulatory patients from a sitting or lying position for transfer or to exam).
