Overview of Responsibilities

This position is for a full-time Custodian I, offering a competitive salary starting at $32,841.45 annually ($15.78 per hour), subject to the promotion policy. The role involves performing essential custodial tasks to maintain cleanliness and safety within the facilities.

Work Schedule

Regular hours are from 1:30 pm to 10:00 pm, Monday through Friday, with summer hours adjusted to Monday through Thursday from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Key Duties

The Custodian I will be responsible for:

  • Organizing staff schedules to ensure adequate coverage during operational hours and special events.
  • Managing the opening and closing of facilities, including security checks and alarm system operations.
  • Evaluating custodial staff performance and recommending necessary actions for improvement.
  • Responding to emergency situations, such as vandalism, and performing clean-up duties as required.
  • Utilizing custodial equipment effectively, including buffers, vacuums, and other cleaning tools.
  • Executing routine cleaning tasks across various areas, including classrooms, restrooms, and common spaces.
  • Maintaining cleanliness by scrubbing, mopping, and dusting different surfaces.
  • Ensuring waste management by emptying and cleaning garbage receptacles.
  • Demonstrating reliability by attending work consistently and engaging in assigned tasks.
  • Being available for overtime work as needed, whether scheduled or in response to emergencies.
  • Carrying out additional responsibilities as assigned by supervisors.

Qualifications

Applicants should possess a high school diploma or equivalent. A solid understanding of cleaning practices, supplies, and equipment is essential. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to supervise a team effectively and maintain accurate records.

Physical Requirements

The role demands physical stamina, including the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, as well as perform various physical activities such as walking, climbing, and bending.

Work Environment

Employees may encounter various conditions, including noise, dust, and exposure to cleaning chemicals. The ability to work both independently and collaboratively is crucial.
