GENERAL OVERVIEW:
The Clinical/Staff Pharmacist in the Registry is tasked with the assessment and distribution of pharmaceuticals, overseeing patient medication therapies, managing the dispensing and documentation of controlled substances, and executing clinical responsibilities within the pharmacist's professional scope.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Ensure accurate and timely entry of medication orders, including those for chemotherapy.
2. Conduct thorough checks of the Automatic Medication Dispensing System (AMDS), intravenous admixtures, patient-specific medications, and prepackaged drugs.
3. Maintain the proper handling, storage, and security of pharmaceuticals within the pharmacy.
4. Monitor and assess patients' medication profiles for safety, focusing on appropriate dosing, contraindications, interactions, allergies, duplications in therapy, and incompatibilities.
5. Evaluate and interpret laboratory alerts/results relevant to medication profiles.
6. Familiarize oneself with the hospital formulary and effectively substitute medications with formulary equivalents as necessary.
7. Provide drug information and education to healthcare professionals and patients to optimize treatment regimens.
8. Demonstrate urgency and the ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently while maintaining productivity that meets or exceeds pharmacy standards, as analyzed through monthly productivity reports.
9. Communicate effectively through electronic means, which is essential in the pharmacy environment, including daily memos and updates.
10. Assist in monitoring Adverse Drug Reactions (ADR), reporting medication variances, and actively engage in continuous quality improvement initiatives.
11. Perform additional duties as assigned, demonstrating flexibility in scheduling based on pharmacy needs.
Adhere to all relevant State and Federal regulations as outlined by the Pharmacy Practice Act and Controlled Substance Act, along with Hospital and Departmental Policies and Procedures.
Maintain consistency in the dispensing of narcotics and ensure accurate record-keeping.
Comply with attendance standards, consistently being prompt and ready to work at the scheduled time.
Provide leadership and guidance to pharmacy technicians and students, ensuring adherence to established standards, delegating responsibilities with clear expectations, and resolving conflicts while demonstrating accountability.
This role requires periods of prolonged sitting and standing, with minimal lifting (up to 10 lbs.) and other physical activities. The work environment is clean, well-lit, climate-controlled, and may involve exposure to stressful and crowded situations. Work may involve handling toxic or caustic chemicals, including chemotherapeutic agents.

Computer, calculator, paging system, printer (laser/zebra), scanner, fax machine, vertical and horizontal laminar flow hoods, Omnicell, pneumatic tube system.
