GENERAL OVERVIEW:
The Registry Clinical/Staff Pharmacist plays a crucial role in the management and distribution of pharmaceuticals, overseeing patient medication therapies, maintaining accurate records of controlled substances, and executing clinical responsibilities within the pharmacist's professional scope.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Efficiently process medication orders, including chemotherapy, ensuring timely and accurate entry.
2. Conduct thorough checks of the Automatic Medication Dispensing System (AMDS), IV preparations, and patient-specific medications.
3. Ensure the secure handling, storage, and distribution of medications within the pharmacy environment.
4. Assess and monitor patient medication profiles for safety, focusing on appropriate dosing, potential contraindications, drug interactions, allergies, and therapy duplications.
5. Analyze and interpret laboratory alerts and results relevant to medication management.
6. Maintain familiarity with the hospital formulary, ensuring appropriate substitutions when necessary, and provide drug information and education to healthcare professionals and patients to optimize treatment outcomes.
7. Exhibit a strong sense of urgency while managing multiple tasks concurrently, meeting or exceeding productivity standards as evaluated through monthly reports.
8. Communicate effectively through electronic channels, as daily correspondence and updates are essential to pharmacy operations.
9. Participate in monitoring Adverse Drug Reactions (ADRs), reporting medication variances, and contributing to ongoing quality improvement initiatives.
10. Be adaptable to perform additional tasks as required, including flexible scheduling based on pharmacy needs.
Compliance with all relevant State and Federal regulations, including the Pharmacy Practice Act and Controlled Substance Act, is mandatory. The pharmacist must be able to articulate policies and procedures accurately.
Maintain consistency in the dispensing of narcotics and ensure meticulous record-keeping.
Adhere to attendance standards, demonstrating punctuality and readiness to work at scheduled times.
Provide guidance and leadership to pharmacy technicians and students, ensuring adherence to established protocols, delegating tasks with clear expectations, and resolving conflicts effectively.
This role involves periods of extended sitting and standing, with minimal lifting (up to 10 lbs.) and other physical activities. The work environment is clean, well-lit, and climate-controlled, with moderate noise levels, though it may involve high-stress situations and exposure to hazardous materials, including chemotherapeutic agents.
Equipment Utilized:
Includes computer systems, calculators, paging devices, printers, scanners, fax machines, laminar flow hoods, Omnicell systems, and pneumatic tube systems.
