We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Educational Specialist II-Summer and Expanded Learning to join our team at Baltimore City Public Schools. This is a full-time position that will play a critical role in supporting the planning, development, and implementation of district-sponsored summer programs.
Key Responsibilities- Support the overall planning and development of district-sponsored summer programs, including high school credit recovery programs, Apex, and middle school academic recovery programs.
- Collaborate with schools to ensure that all district-funded school-based programs meet state and district requirements.
- Consult with schools to help manage their individual summer program plans, including setting up program schedules, adding courses, and ordering materials.
- Support the development and updating of family-facing materials, including flyers, applications, and website content.
- Work with partners and vendors to identify quality practices and resources, and design professional development to support teaching and learning in the district.
- Evaluate previous year's summer programming and develop comprehensive summer work plans.
- Support the development of operation plans for district-run programs, including high school credit recovery programs, Apex, and middle school academic recovery programs.
- Support planning and development of district-sponsored school-based summer offerings.
- Develop and update family-facing materials, including flyers, applications, and website content.
- Develop recruitment materials for summer job offerings.
- Support hiring of all summer program staff.
- Provide professional learning for staff participating in summer events.
- Support the day-to-day management and oversight of all district-operated and funded programs and partners.
- Support the day-to-day implementation and management of district-sponsored school-based summer offerings.
- Lead and manage summer program learning walks, collect feedback, and follow up with programs regarding immediate needs.
- Support responses to parents, schools, and student inquiries that come through the summer email account and Summer Help Line.
- Support and manage summer payroll and manage the compilation of mandatory staff worklogs.
- Ensure compliance with equal employment and nondiscrimination policies, federal laws, state laws, school board policies, and professional standards.
- Master's degree in education or a related field from an accredited college or institution.
- Valid Maryland State Department of Education Advanced Professional Certificate (APC) with applicable endorsement.
- Three years of teaching experience, including experiences in teaching, managing, and supporting summer programming at the school or district level.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver professional development.
- Knowledge of standards and current curriculum framework, and of current 'best practices' in curriculum, instruction, and assessment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to make persuasive presentations.
- Interpersonal skills that ensure effective teambuilding and understanding for the team process.
- Skilled in interpreting, understanding, and applying data.
- Ability to provide training and instruction to teachers, staff, and administrators.
- Proficient in the knowledge and use of technical computer applications.
