Position Summary:
We are looking for an Environmental Specialist to join our Water Resources Bureau.

In this capacity, you will act as a watershed project coordinator, managing and coordinating local and regional initiatives focused on water quality conservation.

Based in the USDA Service Center, you will work closely with various Soil and Water Conservation Districts (SWCDs) to support the execution of the Iowa Nutrient Reduction Strategy.


Key Responsibilities:
In this role, you will be responsible for:
  • Collaborating with agencies, organizations, and individuals to design and implement water quality conservation initiatives.
  • Engaging directly with farmers and landowners to apply best management practices aimed at enhancing water quality.
  • Conducting assessments and evaluations to track project progress and effectiveness.
  • Planning and executing educational programs to promote awareness of conservation practices.
  • Utilizing technology and monitoring techniques to identify resource needs and innovative solutions.
  • Assisting with financial reporting and budgeting for projects.

Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will possess:
  • A solid understanding of agriculture, with a background in agronomy, soil conservation, nutrient management, or agricultural operations preferred.
  • A strong commitment to water conservation and environmental stewardship.
  • The ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders, including farmers, landowners, cooperatives, retailers, and government agencies.
  • Proficiency in utilizing technology and tools such as GIS for project management and evaluation.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
