Alumni Transition Specialist

The Alumni Transition Specialist will play a critical role in supporting 7th and 8th grade students and their families as they transition from Etoile Academy to a competitive high school. This includes creating clear transition plans, helping students apply to private and/or magnet high schools, providing resources to families, and setting up visits to schools. Once our alumni reach 11th grade, the Alumni Transition Specialist will also provide guidance, resources, and assistance with the college application process and financial aid application.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure 100% of graduating Etoile alumni apply to high-performing magnet, charter, private, or district high schools.
  • Ensure that 90% get accepted into at least one high-performing magnet, quality charter, or private school in Houston.
  • Ensure that 80% complete all enrollment paperwork and attend their quality high school on day one.
  • Ensure that any student attending a district high school gets accepted into either a magnet program, an IB program, or honors/AP courses.
  • Communicate to students and families the importance of this transition and the best options available.
  • Create transition plans with all 7th grade students and their families.
  • Educate parents and students on the best HS options and the critical information needed for applications.
  • Communicate regularly with families to ensure that application deadlines and seat acceptance deadlines are met.
  • Plan and execute family workshops to support the parent side of the application process.
  • Assist students and families with applications to competitive high schools.
  • Organize school visits, interviews, and any other necessary connections.
  • Communicate with contacts at high schools and build strong partnerships.
  • Assist students and families with any necessary financial aid paperwork.
  • Assist alumni with the college application process, financial aid process, and in choosing a college.
  • Collect and track data on alumni including high school completion, AP scores, ACT scores, college acceptance, college selection, college matriculation, and college persistence.
  • Organize alumni gatherings at the school to allow alumni to share experiences and feedback with the school leaders and teachers.
  • Help shape and develop a school-wide culture that fosters a productive and enthusiastic learning environment for each student.
  • Establish and maintain a cooperative working relationship with students and families based on trust, understanding, and respect for the communities in which they identify.
  • Host necessary tutoring sessions to meet all students' needs, including test prep sessions for private school admissions tests.
  • Participate in weekly manager check-ins, grade-level meetings, before and after-school duties, and school-wide meetings and functions.
  • Engage in summer and year-long district, school, and personal learning and development.
  • Minimum of 40+ hours spent at school per week.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year educational institution is required.
  • Experience: Experience supporting students in transitioning to high school or college preferred, classroom experience preferred.
  • Bilingual preferred (English/Spanish).
