Regional Medical Director Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced veterinarian to fill the role of Regional Medical Director at Desort. This is a full-time position that requires regular travel to our practice locations throughout the South.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee 20-35 hospitals and collaborate closely with veterinary teams to ensure high standards of patient care and client satisfaction.
  • Monitor clinical practices, mentor staff, and resolve conflicts with clients or team members.
  • Work with regional directors, practice managers, and other key leaders to support staff and business operations.
  • Collaborate with DVMs, assist in cases, and provide mentorship, maintaining a minimum of 8 days per month in a clinical setting.
  • Evaluate cases as requested by Regional Directors, DVMs, or Practice Managers.
  • Monitor hospital operations, appointments, and client satisfaction, providing support for urgent staffing needs.
  • Offer guidance and review in cases of negative outcomes, overseeing content and engagement on the Vetshare App.
  • Analyze weekly trends and explain key performance indicators (KPIs) such as revenue, visits, and other critical metrics.
  • Ensure accuracy and compliance in DEA log books and other regulatory requirements, conducting quarterly inspections of all practices in the designated region.
  • Complete corporate responsibilities within 13 days per month, including travel, projects, DVM interviews, meetings, holidays, and PTO.
Requirements:
  • DVM/VMD degree from an AVMA-accredited college (or successful completion of the ECFVG or PAVE program).
  • Active Veterinary License in the state(s) of all hospitals overseen, along with an active DEA license or the ability to obtain one.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong leadership capabilities, with the ability to effectively delegate responsibilities.
  • Proficiency in analyzing complex information and making informed decisions that respect all stakeholders.
  • Ability to lead, motivate, and work effectively with diverse teams.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills.
  • Commitment to maintaining professionalism and upholding the responsibilities of the Veterinarian role.
  • A minimum of 5+ years of clinical practice experience, with preferred experience in leadership roles.
