Position Overview

The Quality Assurance Nurse plays a crucial role in ensuring compliance with State and Federal regulations, as well as Joint Commission standards within the home health sector. This position is responsible for conducting thorough reviews of patient medical records and identifying trends to enhance clinical documentation.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Conducts utilization reviews and audits of patient medical records in alignment with regulatory standards.
  2. Identifies trends in clinical data and collaborates on action plans to enhance documentation quality.
  3. Implements evaluation and improvement initiatives for OASIS assessments and related documentation.
  4. Facilitates educational training sessions for home care personnel to elevate documentation practices.
  5. Oversees the transfer of medical records to the coding vendor and manages feedback to clinical staff.
  6. Performs ICD-10 coding of clinical records as necessary.
  7. Participates in supervisory coverage during weekends and holidays.
  8. Ensures compliance with all relevant responsibilities associated with the role.
  9. Completes additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education: Associate's Degree in Nursing required.

Experience: Minimum of one year in home health within a state-licensed, Medicare-certified agency.

Skills: Proficient in electronic medical records (EMRs), Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential, along with effective critical thinking and independent problem-solving abilities.

Certifications: Current Adult BLS certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.

Desired Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred; familiarity with quality management and performance improvement practices is advantageous.

Working Conditions

Manual dexterity and significant motor coordination are required. The role may involve some occupational risks and demands very heavy physical effort, with the potential to exert up to 50 lbs. of force. Exposure to various environmental factors such as dirt, odors, noise, and human waste may occur.
