About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Cancer Registry Specialist to join our team at the Greater Baltimore Medical Center (GBMC). As a key member of our cancer registry team, you will play a critical role in collecting and analyzing data to improve patient outcomes and advance cancer research.

Key Responsibilities
  • Data Collection and Analysis: Collect and retrieve data from various sources, including medical records and computerized systems, to ensure accurate and complete data entry.
  • Coding and Classification: Code and classify malignant cases according to American College of Surgeons (ACOS) requirements, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Case Follow-up and Abstracting: Follow up on cases to ensure accurate and complete data entry, and abstract information from patient medical records to complete data elements required by the cancer registry computer system.
  • Data Management and Reporting: Manage and maintain data systems to ensure compliance with cancer registry operation standards and meet the needs of users of the registry data. Assemble and disseminate data collected in the cancer registry, and complete routine and special reports summarizing the cancer experience of the medical center.
Requirements
  • Education: High School diploma or equivalent required; degree in Health Sciences or related field preferred.
  • Licensures/Certifications: Certification eligible for Accreditation by the American Health Information Management Association; Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR) certification preferred.
  • Experience: N/A
  • Skills: Ability to read and interpret medical information, code and classify malignant cases, abstract information from patient medical records, operate a computer terminal, analyze and interpret cancer registry data.
