Special Investigator

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Investigator to join our team at the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement. As a key member of our Safety and Incident Investigations Division, you will be responsible for conducting thorough investigations into offshore safety incidents and environmental protection matters.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct complex investigations into offshore safety incidents and environmental protection matters, including interviews, site visits, and data analysis.
- Develop and implement investigation plans, identify resources required, and conduct interviews and onsite inquiries to collect evidence.
- Prepare clear and accurate written reports outlining investigations, analyses, conclusions, and recommendations.
- Provide subject matter expertise and assistance to Region and District field investigators in conducting complex and/or highly visible investigations.
- Develop and update national policies, procedures, guidance, memorandums of agreement, and training requirements for the Bureau regarding incidents and investigations.
- Serve as a subject matter expert to ensure consistent collection of incident and investigations information and perform analysis of that data.
- Conduct and lead training or outreach to promote the SIID mission and compliance with the Investigations Program.
- Lead and participate in teams and/or complex projects that are internal or external to BSEE, providing expertise and representation on topics of interest to SIID and BSEE overall.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Must be subject to a background/suitability investigation/determination.
- Must have federal payments made by Direct Deposit.
- Must submit ALL required documents and a completed questionnaire.
- Selective Service: If you are a male applicant born after December 31, 1959, you must certify that you have registered with the Selective Service system, or are exempt from having to do so under the Selective Service Law.
- Minimum Qualification Requirements: To qualify for the GS-14, you must possess at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service, or comparable experience not gained through Federal service.
- Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled.
Predicated on the requirements of current BSEE policy and medical guidelines, the incumbent may need to pass medical exams, successfully complete helicopter underwater egress and swing rope training, and aviation safety training.
Work EnvironmentThe work involves normal, everyday risks or discomforts typical of offices, meeting rooms, and large buildings. The work area while in the office (primary work environment) is adequately lighted, cooled, and ventilated. When necessary and as dictated by the occasional need to perform investigative duties, the work environment contains elements of exposure to potentially dangerous situations.
