Position Overview

Role Title: Visitor Engagement Volunteer
Department: Guest Services

SUMMARY: The Visitor Engagement Volunteer at the Frost Museum of Science will collaborate with the Guest Services team to support staff by greeting visitors, providing directional assistance, and helping staff within the exhibit areas. This role requires a commitment of at least 100 hours and availability for a minimum of 4 hours weekly between 10AM-7PM.

COMPENSATION: Unpaid

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Greet visitors as they enter the museum.
  • Respond to inquiries regarding directions, events, and general information to ensure a positive visitor experience.
  • Support Guest Services staff in the exhibit areas by guiding visitors through specific exhibits or assisting with seating for presentations.
  • Participate in training sessions to gain knowledge about the content of the exhibits.
  • Assist staff in gathering visitor feedback through evaluations.
  • Help train new volunteer greeters.
  • Enforce safety protocols as outlined by the organization.
  • Complete all assigned duties as directed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Passion for science and the mission of Frost Science.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills.
  • Dependable and punctual with a strong attendance record.
  • Must exhibit a friendly and enthusiastic demeanor focused on visitor satisfaction.
  • Able to interact effectively with diverse personalities in a dynamic environment.
  • Capable of problem-solving and demonstrating resourcefulness.
  • Ability to work independently or collaboratively within a team.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) or (English/Creole) preferred.
  • Prior experience in customer service is advantageous.
  • Must be at least 16 years of age.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

While executing the responsibilities of this position, the individual is frequently required to sit, talk, and listen. Daily tasks involve a variety of physical activities, including walking, standing, bending, sitting, and reaching.

The individual may occasionally need to walk; use hands and fingers to feel, handle, or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The individual must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Must be able to stand for extended periods and move quickly to assist visitors. Specific vision abilities required for this role include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The characteristics of the work environment described here are representative of those encountered while performing the essential functions of this role. The working environment includes both indoor and outdoor spaces of the museum. Must be prepared to work for extended periods in various weather conditions such as sun, rain, heat, and wind. Engagement in outdoor activities is often required.
