The Cultural Heritage Security Specialist plays a crucial role in ensuring the protection of the museum's assets, including its valuable art collections, as well as the safety of visitors and staff. This position is part of the Finance and Operations Team within the Safety and Security Department and reports directly to the Director of Safety and Security.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure the safety of Vizcaya's assets, visitors, and personnel by monitoring assigned areas and responding promptly to supervisory requests throughout the museum and its grounds.
  • Conduct regular patrols on foot, bicycle, and vehicle to oversee activities and deter violations, including unauthorized access.
  • Address security incidents, accidents, or emergencies; provide assistance in resolving these situations, including administering first aid and documenting incidents as necessary.
  • Collaborate with law enforcement agencies during investigative and emergency scenarios.
  • Facilitate visitor logistics and manage security and traffic flow during large public and private events.
  • Utilize surveillance equipment, mobile communication devices, public address systems, and patrol vehicles effectively.
  • Report any unusual occurrences, potential threats, or equipment malfunctions to the shift supervisor.

Position Requirements

  • A minimum of one year of experience in security, protective services, or law enforcement.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license and a State of Florida Class D Security Officer license, along with certifications in AED, CPR, and First Aid within the first six months of employment; maintenance of these certifications is required for continued employment.
  • Familiarity with the fundamental rules of conduct expected in a museum environment.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and interact courteously and tactfully with the public while enforcing rules of conduct.
  • Commitment to teamwork, customer service, strategic thinking, and innovation.
  • Proficiency in operating computers and basic office equipment.
  • Fluency in English.

Evaluation Criteria

  • Additional relevant work experience, training, or education, along with a State of Florida Class D Security Officer license and/or certifications in AED, CPR, and First Aid.
  • Proficiency in Spanish, Haitian Creole, or other languages.

Compensation and Benefits

Vizcaya Museum and Gardens offers competitive compensation, generous paid leave, retirement benefits, and comprehensive medical and other insurance for full-time employees. The starting salary for this role is $18 per hour.
