Position Summary

The role involves evaluating, approving, and distributing financial assistance to students in compliance with federal, state, and institutional regulations. The advisor assesses the financial circumstances of students and provides guidance to students and their families regarding available financial aid options, processes, and requirements. This position may also expand to include the processing of various funding types.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate the financial situation of students and families, offering advice on financial aid opportunities, eligibility criteria, and application procedures.
  • Collaborate with admissions personnel to finalize enrollment documentation each term.
  • Maintain historical records and data pertaining to financial aid files in accordance with federal regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with FERPA and institutional policies regarding the release of records and information.
  • Assess applications for financial aid, exercising professional judgment to determine necessary adjustments.
  • Review and validate loan applications, promissory notes, and other financial documents for accuracy.
  • Develop and maintain the application intake and tracking process to ensure proper documentation for audit purposes.
  • Prepare and adjust financial aid packages for eligible applicants in line with federal, state, and institutional policies.
  • Provide information via phone, video calls, and electronic chat to students and families regarding financial aid and account balances.
  • Conduct workshops and presentations for students, parents, and other interested parties on financial aid policies and procedures.
  • Utilize the student management system to document all student account information.
  • Review the Finance section in ISIR, ensuring all documentation meets standards for completeness and accuracy.
  • Identify deficiencies and propose innovative solutions.
  • Ensure all new student files are financially cleared before the term begins by collecting necessary documentation.
  • Provide financial projections that align with institutional guidelines and favor student interests.
  • Upload documents and collaborate with third-party agencies to ensure timely disbursement of funds.

Qualifications

  • Preferred bachelor's or associate degree with four years of relevant experience; or a satisfactory combination of experience and training demonstrating the required knowledge and skills.
  • Comprehensive understanding of federal financial aid programs and recordkeeping requirements.
  • Familiarity with higher education processes, supervisory practices, communication techniques, and software applications.
  • General knowledge of accounting principles, data processing, and computer applications.
  • Detail-oriented with exceptional research and analytical skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Demonstrates urgency while engaging with experts.
  • Exhibits flexibility in adapting to a dynamic environment.
  • Capable of rapid and effective problem-solving.
  • Strong organizational skills with a proven ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Timely completion of tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Proficient in standard Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook.

Work Schedule

This is a full-time position with workdays from Monday to Friday. Occasional weekend and evening hours may be necessary.

Supervisory Role

This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

Physical Requirements

This position may be considered sedentary, requiring prolonged periods of sitting. Essential functions include:

  • Typing and using a computer while communicating on the phone.
  • Daily use of a personal computer and related software.
  • Repetitive hand movements while performing daily tasks.
  • Dependability and excellent attendance are essential.
  • Occasional travel may be required for business purposes.
  • Basic mathematical calculations are part of the role.

Work Environment

This remote position involves working from a home office. Employees are expected to maintain a safe and ergonomic workspace, ensuring data security and confidentiality in line with company policies.

Compliance with work hours, availability, and time tracking is mandatory. The company is not responsible for home office maintenance beyond reasonable accommodations and necessary equipment.
