About the Role

Burns & McDonnell, a 100% employee-owned engineering, architectural, construction, environmental, and consulting services firm, is seeking a highly skilled Senior Underground Transmission Design Engineer to join our Transmission and Distribution Group.

Key Responsibilities
  • Technical Leadership: Provide technical guidance and leadership to underground transmission design teams on projects ranging from 69kV to 500kV.
  • Design Execution: Independently execute design work with engineering judgment, ensuring high-quality results.
  • Quality Reviews: Perform thorough quality reviews to ensure compliance with project requirements and company standards.
  • Project Scope Management: Identify and communicate changes to project scope to engineering lead and project manager.
  • Schedule and Budget Management: Provide input and adhere to project schedules, while understanding and managing project budgets.
  • Risk Management: Identify and communicate technical risks associated with projects.
  • Process Improvement: Identify, develop, and communicate processes and tools to increase efficiency across teams and departments.
  • Training and Development: Create, improve, facilitate, and teach training courses to project teams and departments.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or related degree from an ABET-accredited program.
  • Experience: Prior internship and/or related consulting experience preferred.
  • Skills: Basic knowledge in standard civil engineering techniques, principles, and procedures; excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment; demonstrated critical thinking skills; proficient computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite); basic computer skills (e.g., AutoCAD, MicroStation, BIM (Revit), Civil 3D, PLS, PLS-CADD, RISA-3D, MathCADD), and civil analysis programs.
  • Certifications: Engineers in Training (EIT) Certification preferred.
  • Other: Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills; demonstrated leadership skills; minimum of a 3.0 GPA strongly preferred; involvement on campus or in the community preferred.
