Job Title: Controller

At NV Energy, we are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Controller to join our team. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in overseeing financial operations, ensuring compliance with US GAAP, and driving business growth.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide executive leadership oversight to the accounting organization, including the monthly close and management reporting.
  • Oversee the establishment and maintenance of accounting policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, foreign, and local regulations and laws, including the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, Sarbanes-Oxley, and the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act.
  • Own the compliance with generally accepted accounting principles, internal controls, and the research, resolution, and documentation of all accounting and reporting deliverables issues.
  • Lead reporting and data requests for regulatory filings and stay up-to-date with regulatory changes impacting the utility industry.
  • Provide written and oral testimony in rate cases on accounting policies and financial statements, as necessary.
  • Develop relationships and help identify and drive best practices across Berkshire Hathaway Energy and other affiliated companies.
  • Establish and implement short- and long-term accounting organization goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures.
  • Identify and implement process improvements.
  • Oversee the maintenance of the company's accounting systems and direct the information technology strategy for the accounting organization.
  • Direct the financial audits and act as the primary contact within the organization with the independent auditors.
  • Develop accurate budgets based on departmental and business unit plans; control expenditures within budgeted levels to support those plans.
  • Provide insight and assistance to the company's business plan, including identifying potential risks and opportunities for financial performance improvement.
  • Develop and mentor the accounting team with a focus on advance communication, high transparency, minimizing surprises, and effective partnership with leaders cross-functionally.
  • Maintain sensitive and confidential information regarding company information.
  • Support the company's employee policies and procedures, including workplace safety rules.
  • Monitor and enforce all compliance requirements for the area of responsibility.
  • Ensure all compliance aspects of the position are known and followed; understand and comply with all policies, codes, and regulations applicable to the position and company.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and professional development within the finance department.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field from an accredited school plus 8 years of related work experience.
  • Previous utility and leadership experience preferred.
  • Certified Public Accounting (CPA) designation required.
Specialized Knowledge and Skills:
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and SEC reporting requirements.
  • Federal Energy Regulatory Commission guidance and reporting requirements.
  • Experience with Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 and the COSO Internal Control Integrated Framework.
Demonstrated Skills:
  • Leadership, problem-solving, decision-making, prioritizing, and handling multiple issues and projects concurrently.
  • Analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain working relationships with officers, managers, fellow employees, and the general public.
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Proven leadership experience with the ability to manage and motivate a team.
  • Advanced proficiency in financial software and ERP systems (e.g., Oracle).
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
Compensation:

Annual Salary: $176,300 (Min) to $207,500 (Mid); Up to 20% Short Term Incentive Plan target opportunity at the discretion of the company. This is a non-represented position.
