Job Summary

As a Senior Accountant with Williamson County, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of our financial reporting. Reporting directly to the Assistant Financial Director, you will be responsible for performing complex accounting duties in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB), and applicable laws and regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and recommend financial policies, procedures, and standards
  • Work closely with leadership to re-evaluate processes, procedures, and workloads within the financial division
  • Assist in the preparation and review of the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report and the Popular Annual Financial Report (PAFR)
  • Perform complex accounting analysis and reconciliations to ensure accuracy of data reported in financial statements
  • Analyze complex revenue and expenditure financial activities and/or economic issues, including costs and benefits to the County's financial condition
  • Evaluate and research exception items and identify procedures to take corrective action
  • Investigate variances, ratios, and other financial metrics and reconcile assigned general ledger accounts
  • Enter line-item transfers and budget amendments, as needed
  • Review and submit Commissioner's Court agenda items
  • Assist in the preparation of various monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports
  • Audit, code, and submit invoices, P-card statements, etc.
  • Create, review, and post journal entries
  • Assist with year-end procedures
  • Assist with audits
  • Provide financial assistance to various county departments
  • Perform cash drawer, liability account, and bank reconciliations
  • Review cash flows and interlocal/advanced funding agreements
  • Assist with assets and liabilities reconciliations
  • Assist with payroll verification and payroll reconciliations
  • Provide guidance and assist entry-level accountants
  • Develop, allocate, and monitor a budget
  • Attend all meetings and trainings, as required
  • Perform special duties as assigned
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or related field with major coursework in accounting or finance and five (5) years of accounting experience with at least two (2) years in fund accounting
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and financial systems

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Public Finance Officer (CFPO), or in the process of obtaining
