Position Overview:
As a Design Engineer within our Traffic Division, you will play a crucial role in engineering designs by applying your understanding of general engineering principles and practices. Your responsibilities will include interpreting, organizing, executing, and coordinating tasks to complete traffic engineering designs for roadways, bicycles, and pedestrian pathways.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct traffic analyses, operations, and safety studies aimed at enhancing vehicular and pedestrian safety.
  • Develop comprehensive plans for pavement markings, signage, traffic signals, Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), and lighting tasks.
  • Plan, schedule, and coordinate detailed phases of engineering work for minor and major projects.
  • Analyze survey reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, aerial photography, and other topographical or geological data to inform project planning.
  • Perform design computations and ensure adherence to client specifications and guidelines utilizing MicroStation and Open Roads.
  • Prepare construction cost estimates and assist in the development of engineering documents for advertisement and construction.
  • Compile contract plans, specifications, and estimates.
  • Collaborate with internal team members to ensure project completion within defined deadlines and established quality standards.
Additional Responsibilities:

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related field from an ABET accredited engineering program.
  • 0-4 years of relevant experience.
  • Intermediate proficiency with MicroStation, GEOPAK, and OpenRoads Designer (ORD).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Engineer Intern certification (EI) or the ability to obtain it within 6-12 months from the date of hire.
  • Experience collaborating with local clients at the county and state levels.
  • Familiarity with Synchro, TransModeler, or HCS is advantageous.
Working Conditions:

The majority of work is performed in a general office environment, which is predominantly sedentary. However, occasional fieldwork may be required, necessitating work outdoors in varying weather conditions. Some lifting (up to 25 lbs) may be necessary as needed.
