POSITION SUMMARY


This role is responsible for the creation and management of programs and policies focused on Employee Safety, Accident Prevention, Safe Work Practices, Safety Training, OSHA Compliance, Workers Compensation, Field Safety Audits, Emergency Response, Employee Wellness, Risk Management, Fire Protection, Pollution Prevention, and Safety Policies & Procedures at Orion Group Holdings.

The individual in this position will oversee safety management for marine construction activities across all locations where the Company operates.


The incumbent is expected to uphold the guiding principles and core values of Orion, which emphasize Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Teamwork, all founded on the essential value of Integrity.


SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides administrative, analytical, and project support for safety initiatives.
  • Prepares weekly safety project updates, monthly compliance reports, and quarterly safety recognition summaries.
  • Assists in developing bid proposals for prospective clients, including Construction Site Safety Plans and emergency action plans.
  • Maintains organized records for the Safety department.
  • Participates in safety inspections and audits as a team member.
  • Conducts statistical analysis of safety data to identify areas for improvement.
  • Coordinates training sessions, including registration and scheduling, and supports instructors with administrative tasks.
  • Offers administrative assistance for claims related to injuries, damages, and pollution by documenting and gathering necessary information.
  • Inputs data into the Safety Management System database (e.g., Intelex).

EMPLOYEE SAFETY AND COMPLIANCE

  • Accountable for personal safety and the safety of colleagues and others encountered in the workplace.
  • Authorized to halt work on any task if an unsafe condition is identified.
  • Must comply with all relevant laws, regulations, and Company policies, with disciplinary actions applicable for non-compliance.
  • Required to report any violations of laws, regulations, or Company policies promptly.
  • Engages in other related administrative and technical duties as assigned by supervision.
  • All employees must maintain confidentiality regarding proprietary or sensitive information.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
A minimum of 2 years of experience in safety and health within a marine construction setting is essential. A Bachelor’s or Associate’s Degree in Occupational or Industrial Safety or a related field is highly preferred.

A BCSP safety credential (CSP, ASP, CHST, OHST, STS-C, etc.) is required, or the candidate must be able to obtain a BCSP credential within one year.


The ideal candidate will possess a solid understanding of Safety Management, local, state, and federal Safety Regulations, Accident Prevention, Emergency Response, Risk Management, and standard safety Policies & Procedures. Previous experience in the Marine Construction sector is advantageous.

Strong training and communication skills (both verbal and written) are necessary, along with the ability to effectively engage with employees at all organizational levels.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

The individual must be capable of performing essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodations.


Must be able to wear and properly use required personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated areas.

This includes hard hats, safety glasses, respirators, earplugs, steel-toed shoes, or other necessary protective gear.


The individual should have the ability to identify critical issues and develop action plans in collaboration with management.


Must remain composed during emergencies and respond appropriately as directed by Safety Representatives or management personnel.

Must be able to evacuate the work area promptly in case of an emergency.
