The University of Tennessee's College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking a skilled Veterinary Nurse/Veterinary Technician to join our team in the Large Animal Clinical Sciences Department. As a rotating Veterinary Nurse/Veterinary Technician, you will provide nursing care in various service areas, making patient assessments, preparing patients for exams or treatments, and assisting faculty and staff to achieve clinic goals.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide patient care in medicine, surgery, anesthesia, rehabilitation, emergency and critical care, field services, farrier, and reproduction services by assessing large animal patients, performing triage, and preparing patients for exams or treatments.
  • Perform diagnostic tests and submit blood work and lab specimens. Record patients' medical histories, symptoms, and observations. Administer medications and treatment. Prepare for surgical procedures using aseptic and sterile techniques.
  • Help establish a plan of care and confer with owners. Regularly communicate with supervising clinicians. Operate and clean medical and/or surgical equipment such as laparoscopic and arthroscopic machines, endoscopes, ultrasound machines, etc.
  • Collaborate with others to ensure quality patient care is received. Enter charges on patient accounts. Manage supplies, equipment, and inventory. Organize products, maintain equipment, and order supplies.
  • Support teaching efforts by instructing students, interns, and residents. Support research efforts by teaching in laboratories and non-clinical settings when time allows.
Requirements:
  • Must be a graduate of an American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA)-accredited program in Veterinary Technology with an Associate's or Bachelor's degree.
  • Must obtain a license to practice in Tennessee within the first year of employment.
  • Future graduates will be considered as long as degree is obtained prior to start.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Additional relevant experience preferred.
