Job Summary

Smithfield Foods seeks a highly skilled Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Manager to lead our commitment to worker health, safety, and environmental stewardship. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for implementing and managing EHS programs to ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and company standards.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Lead regulatory requirements in areas such as Worker Safety, Environmental, Process Safety Management (PSM), Risk Management Program (RMP), Security, Waste/Wastewater Operations, and medical management.
  2. Implement and manage EHS programs, communicate initiatives relating to Smithfield's Injury Prevention System (SIPS) and Environmental Management System (EMS), and provide direction regarding compliance, training, and EHS practices at all levels within the location.
  3. Design, manage, and implement comprehensive Environmental, Health, and Safety programs.
  4. Oversee the implementation and management of Environmental, Health and Safety programs to ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and company standards.
  5. Conduct annual program reviews, maintain the Environmental Management Systems (EMS) and Smithfield Injury Prevention System (SIPS), and address audit findings promptly.
  6. Lead ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 certification efforts, manage Process Safety and Risk Management Programs for ammonia refrigeration, and coordinate site security plans with management.
  7. Ensure effective healthcare and handling of incidents to reduce workers' compensation costs, absenteeism, and turnover.
  8. Review and monitor incident investigation reports, participate in claim reviews and mediations, and address EHS incident trends with actionable plans.
  9. Train production employees and management on OSHA, environmental regulations, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and emergency response protocols.
Requirements

  1. Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university in the environmental, health and safety field and 5+ years relevant experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience, required.
  2. 2+ years of demonstrated experience in team management/development or project leadership is required.
  3. Ability to make strategic decisions while in stressful situations including leading emergency response efforts.
  4. Comfortable with, at times, working long hours, weekends, and remaining in an on-call status when required including adjusting work schedule to cover evening/night shift training or to troubleshoot concerns as determined by Plant Management.
  5. Occasional travel involved to collaborate with others.
