Job Title: Construction Assistant

Description: Support the Foreman and skilled tradespeople in executing their designated tasks under close supervision. This position typically serves as an entry-level opportunity to acquire essential skills in the construction field.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Excavate, distribute, and level earth, sand, and gravel using hand tools such as picks, shovels, or rakes.
  • Transport, lift, and hold construction materials, tools, and supplies as needed.
  • Maintain cleanliness of tools, equipment, materials, and the work environment.
  • Combine, pour, and distribute concrete, asphalt, gravel, and other materials utilizing hand tools.
  • Assemble, wrap, and secure sections of piping.
  • Carry out various routine manual tasks.
  • Assist in machine operations including soil compaction, jackhammering, and pipe fusion.

Qualifications:

  • Adhere to all safety regulations, practices, and procedures. Report any unsafe conditions to the supervisor or Human Resources.
  • Engage in proactive teamwork to meet departmental and organizational objectives.
  • Exhibit leadership qualities by setting an example and sharing knowledge and skills with others.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

Education: Less than a High School Diploma.

Experience: Preferred three or more years of relevant construction experience.

Physical Demands: This role involves heavy physical activity and requires the ability to perform strenuous tasks throughout the workday.

Manual Dexterity: Sufficient manual dexterity to handle items and work with hands, along with the ability to discern attributes of various objects and materials.

Working Conditions: Exposure to outdoor elements and varying weather conditions including rain, sun, snow, and wind.

Work Environment: Regular exposure to outdoor weather conditions, extreme temperatures, and high noise levels. Frequent encounters with wet or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, and elevated work areas. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
