Job Summary

The Biomedical Equipment Technician 1 performs skilled technical work in the repair and preventive maintenance of electronic, electromechanical, pneumatic, and mechanical medical equipment. This role is responsible for testing, repairing, calibrating, and performing preventive maintenance procedures on complex medical equipment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Test and repair complex medical equipment, including electronic, electromechanical, pneumatic, and mechanical devices
  • Perform preventive maintenance procedures on medical equipment to ensure optimal performance and safety
  • Troubleshoot electronic circuits to the component level and read and interpret schematic diagrams, service manuals, and wiring sketches
  • Use a wide variety of test instruments to perform troubleshooting and repair procedures
  • Apply knowledge of basic hand tools and effectively use those tools
  • Recognize occupational hazards and observe safety precautions
  • Effectively use metal turning lathes, drill presses, grinders, and other general machine tools and associated hand tools
  • Accurately document all aspects of work performed and maintain equipment records
  • Demonstrate behaviors of service excellence and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Expertise)
  • Perform all other related job duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Generally requires 0 to 3 years of related experience
  • High School diploma is required
  • Ability to analyze, organize, and prioritize work accurately while meeting multiple deadlines
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form
  • Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with critical thinking and professional composure
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions
  • Knowledge and skill in use of job-appropriate technology and software applications
  • Valid license or certification is required as needed, based on the job or specialty

Working Conditions

  • Job functions require extended walking or standing
  • Must be able to climb stairs/ladder, stoop, bend, crawl, and perform repetitive motions as needed
  • Must be able to carry objects weighing 21 to 50 pounds
