Job Overview

This role is part of the Business & Legal Affairs team, dedicated to delivering comprehensive legal and business support for the Universal Brand Development Division. This division is responsible for the licensing of NBCU's film and television properties across various platforms, including merchandising, publishing, video games, digital interactions, and promotional tie-ins.

The primary focus of this position involves conducting rights research and analysis, as well as collaborating with various teams within Brand Development to draft legal agreements.

Salary range: $140,000 - $170,000 (includes eligibility for bonuses and long-term incentives)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide legal advice, analysis, and research on rights, trademarks, clearance, and other intellectual property matters related to Brand Development initiatives (including merchandise, publishing, games, digital content, and live events). Prepare and review rights summaries and memoranda, and assist in negotiating rights agreements.
  • Draft and negotiate a significant volume of intellectual property licenses and service agreements linked to the licensing, distribution, promotion, and marketing of intellectual property content for consumer products, retail promotions, live events, and other franchise activities.
  • Act as a liaison to external licensees and internal partners across various business units; manage inquiries and provide consultation to internal stakeholders.
  • Review product content to ensure compliance with legal standards.
  • Handle limited legal administration tasks, including infringement enforcement and drafting concise letters and agreements.
  • Undertake additional duties and special projects as required.

Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree and active membership in the California Bar.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a law firm or relevant corporate or studio environment.
  • Exceptional communication, drafting, and negotiation skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.

Desired Skills:

  • Experience in intellectual property matters and corporate transactions is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with chain of title, motion picture, and television rights agreements is preferred.
  • Knowledge of television and film production, including SAG, WGA, and DGA agreements.
  • Proven success in a large, diverse corporate setting.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple high-priority tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to effectively engage with a diverse range of personalities and build productive relationships at all organizational levels.
  • Strong organizational skills with the capacity to manage and track a high-volume workload.
  • Effective problem-solving abilities and a commitment to positive client service.

Additional Information:

  • This position is designated as hybrid, requiring in-office presence for a minimum of three days per week.
