ABOUT FACILITIES MANAGEMENT

This role is essential in supporting a profitable operation, ensuring that assets are well-maintained and services are delivered promptly and reliably while minimizing vendor costs. Facilities Management (FM) plays a crucial role in supporting sales initiatives and controlling expenses, allowing store teams to concentrate on providing excellent service to our guests. FM facilitates remodel projects, implements new setups, and enhances both front-of-store and backroom operations to ensure a positive experience for our digital guests.

At Target, we believe in providing our team members with meaningful experiences that foster skill development for their careers. The position of Facilities Management Supervisor can equip you with valuable skills and experiences, including:

  • Collaborating with vendors to ensure timely project completion
  • Identifying and executing preventive and corrective maintenance on all facility assets and equipment
  • Guiding store teams to align project work with FM priorities and financial objectives
  • Working with plumbing, HVAC, refrigeration, life safety power systems, and electrical equipment
  • Understanding when to repair versus replace and managing associated costs
  • Completing work in accordance with compliance standards and Target guidelines
As a Facilities Management Supervisor, your daily responsibilities may include:
  • Understanding your role in achieving store sales objectives
  • With FM guidance, informing and engaging the team (including new leaders) on FM workload priorities, collaborating on various projects, and discussing the impact of store processes on asset maintenance and functionality
  • Utilizing technology to prioritize daily work orders for the store
  • With FM guidance, assessing store branding and ensuring asset and vendor performance meets maintenance standards
  • Maintaining and repairing assets
  • Conducting proactive asset maintenance as assigned by headquarters
  • Performing reactive repairs as requested by store teams
  • With FM guidance, executing special projects, remodels, and supporting FM asset or service strategies in collaboration with the store team
  • Ensuring internal and external work orders are completed and that vendors are held accountable for asset repairs
  • Evaluating FM candidates for open positions
  • Ensuring learning objectives are met and that behaviors are consistently demonstrated
  • With FM guidance, assisting in the training of new FM team members
  • Sharing solutions that help reduce vendor costs
  • With FM guidance, identifying areas or individuals to influence and train on proper asset care
  • Assisting in managing emergency situations as needed in partnership with store and field leaders
  • Following safety procedures and using Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) while maintaining equipment (Lock Out/Tag Out, Arc Flash, etc.), ensuring a safe work environment by eliminating potential safety hazards.
  • Providing service and a shopping experience that meets the needs of the guest
  • Demonstrating a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through continuous development, modeling inclusive behaviors, and proactively managing bias
  • Working safely at all times to benefit yourself and others; identifying and correcting hazards; complying with all safety policies and best practices.

The good news is that we offer excellent training to equip you with everything you need to succeed as a Facilities Management Supervisor. However, there are a few skills you should possess from the start:
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Basic technical skills and general experience working with facility assets required
  • 1-2 years of technical education preferred in areas such as electrical, mechanical, carpentry, HVAC, or plumbing, and/or experience in basic door repair, HVAC filter changes, carpentry, power equipment/mechanical repair, and basic equipment troubleshooting
  • Proficiency in operating power tools, HVAC systems, wet/dry vacuums, and other power equipment (as labor laws permit) preferred
  • Ability to manage vendor relationships and ensure accountability for quality and efficient service delivery
  • Ability to influence and hold others accountable
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to operate multiple communication devices and technology as directed
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
  • Ability to manage workload and prioritize tasks independently
  • A welcoming and helpful attitude
  • Capability to remain focused and composed in a fast-paced environment while accomplishing multiple tasks within established timeframes
