Your Responsibilities

You will engage in energy resilience, energy assessments, retro-commissioning, and other energy-related projects for diverse clients. Your role will involve conducting energy resilience studies, which include evaluating power distribution systems, assessing client electrical loads, proposing on-site generation alternatives, identifying energy conservation opportunities, and facilitating the implementation of projects that enhance energy and water resilience, reduce consumption, save costs, and benefit the environment. Your work will involve both office tasks and frequent field visits to various client facilities.

Key Office Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate power requirements and develop alternative solutions to enhance power resilience at various sites.
  • Design facility energy conservation measures and efficiency enhancements.
  • Assess existing electrical infrastructure for necessary repairs, replacements, and upgrades.
  • Generate energy savings estimates through building energy modeling and engineering calculations.
  • Conduct cost and payback analyses for identified initiatives.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate project records, including data, documentation, and reports.
  • Prepare technical reports or sections of reports, often under tight deadlines.
  • Analyze energy and utilities data.
  • Perform design reviews and propose recommendations for improvements.
  • Suggest enhancements to utility procurement and operations.
  • Undertake other related duties as required.

Field Work Responsibilities:
  • Conduct facility audits.
  • Perform field inspections and functional performance tests.
  • Review operational modes, sequences of operations, and specifics of equipment, operations, and maintenance.
  • Identify energy conservation opportunities.
  • Troubleshoot system operational issues affecting efficiency.
  • Deliver technical presentations to clients.
  • Communicate effectively with client leadership and facility maintenance personnel.
  • Manage onsite personnel, including subcontractors, to adapt to changing field conditions while meeting project objectives.

General Project Support Duties:
  • Collaborate effectively to achieve results.
  • Engage in daily communication with team members.
  • Participate in daily meetings to coordinate work efforts.
  • Manage document deliverables.
  • Secure qualified resources to meet project objectives.
  • Procure subcontractors when necessary.
  • Meet or exceed client expectations.

The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of 10 years of experience in energy resilience, power system design, power system studies, or microgrid controls, along with experience in energy consulting, energy auditing, commissioning, or retro-commissioning engineering. Experience with project development, life-cycle cost analysis, direct digital controls, and building/system optimization is highly desirable.

We seek candidates with:
  • A strong background in electrical distribution systems and experience with medium voltage systems up to 35 kVa.
  • The knowledge and capability to investigate electrical equipment and distribution requirements.
  • The ability to size and provide on-site electrical generation capabilities with appropriate switching and isolation from the commercial grid.
  • Familiarity with utility information systems, energy management technologies, and metering.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with all team members.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a results-oriented mindset.
  • The ability to produce technically accurate work, including reports and briefs.
  • Proficiency in computer skills, particularly with spreadsheets and database applications.

Experience with eQUEST, Energy Pro, or similar modeling software is advantageous.

A BS in electrical engineering or a related energy field is required, although equivalent demonstrated experience may be acceptable.

Preferred certifications include:
  • Professional Engineer license.
  • Certified Energy Manager (CEM) from the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE).
  • Certified Building Commissioning Professional (CBCP) from the AEE.
  • Existing Building Commissioning Professional (EBCP) from the AEE.
  • Certified Commissioning Professional (CCP) from the Building Commissioning Association (BCA).
  • Commissioning Process Management Professional (CPMP) from ASHRAE.

U.S. citizenship is required, and candidates must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance. Current security clearance, particularly Secret Clearance, is preferred.

The work environment includes both office settings and frequent field visits to various client facilities. Candidates must be able to exert up to 20 lbs. of force occasionally, up to 10 lbs. of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Physical demands exceed those of sedentary work, requiring significant walking or standing. Candidates must be able to climb ladders and access various spaces.

Salary Range: $100,000 - $130,000

This salary range represents the low and high end of the proposed salary for this position. Actual salaries will vary based on factors such as location, experience, and performance as part of a total compensation package.
