This role is structured as a per diem and hybrid position. As a per diem employee, your hours will primarily be during the day, with varied shifts. Some responsibilities may be conducted remotely, while others will require on-site presence and travel to various pharmacy locations within the area. Initial training may involve full-time hours, transitioning to per diem status upon completion.

The Pharmacy Technician in this hybrid role will play a crucial part in assisting the pharmacists within the Pharmacy & Nutrition Services Department. The primary responsibilities include supporting pharmacists, healthcare providers, and physicians in the management of prescription orders, prior authorizations, medication distribution, and inventory oversight. All tasks will be performed under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist. This position also entails some travel to replenish medication dispensing units across the designated service area.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Relay essential information to pharmacists, prescribing physicians, and other healthcare staff.
  • Timely monitor and respond to electronic communications and medical record messages throughout the workday.
  • Assist in securing prior authorizations from insurance providers and coordinating with pharmacies.
  • Support data collection and entry as required.
  • Facilitate communication with clinics regarding medication requests and related issues.
  • Conduct necessary searches for charts or laboratory results and accurately transcribe relevant information into the electronic health record system.

Qualifications

Educational Background:

  • High School Diploma or GED

Licenses Required:

  • California Pharmacy Technician License
  • Valid California Driver's License for travel to various pharmacy locations

Experience:

  • Experience with prior authorizations and utilization management, preferably in a health plan setting.
  • Minimum of one year of experience in a hospital or relevant pharmacy environment.
  • Familiarity with automated medication dispensing systems is preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to perform various physical activities including lifting, standing, walking, sitting, and other movements necessary for patient care.
  • Must possess the physical capability and perceptive acuity to effectively carry out all patient care functions in a dynamic work environment.
