Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Research Specialist V to join our team at the Texas Department of Aging & Disability Services. This is a unique opportunity to work on advanced data analysis and provide recommendations to the Texas Vaccine for Children (VFC) programs relating to Public Health Informatics.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement effective data dissemination methods for vaccines and vaccine usage.
  • Provide advanced analysis and guidance for the Immunization Section by planning, conducting, and reporting on projects for the VFC program.
  • Develop and implement new procedures, policies, protocols, and processes for data quality assessment of vaccines and related systems.
  • Consult and provide expert technical assistance and guidance to program staff within the DSHS central and regional offices, local health departments, other governmental agencies, community organizations, the general public, providers, and payers.
  • Support programs and entities ordering vaccines, assist with coordination and analysis of import data processing activities, and monitor database for data integrity and records quality issues.
Requirements:
  • Knowledge of medical/epidemiologic data analysis, methods, principles, and techniques.
  • Knowledge of statistical concepts and methods and their application to research analysis.
  • Knowledge of measurement, testing, and evaluation procedures.
  • Knowledge of computer applications (SQL, SAS) to biostatistics, spreadsheet, Power Point, Tableau, and geographical information systems (ArcGIS).
  • Ability to work independently, gather information from various sources, and synthesize information into simpler terms.
  • Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely orally and in writing.
  • Ability to develop and effectively deliver training and technical assistance about data methods, procedures, or DSHS policies.
  • Ability to interpret complex statistical data, charts, and tables.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and establish and maintain effective working relationships and work with others as part of a team.
Working Conditions:

This position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, meet rapid deadlines, and perform under pressure. The successful candidate will be able to work independently and as part of a team, and will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Education and Experience:

A bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as public health, epidemiology, or statistics, and at least 5 years of experience in data analysis and research are required. A master's degree or Ph.D. in a relevant field is preferred.
