Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Data Center Systems Support Specialist to join our team at the Texas Department of Public Safety. As a key member of our IT team, you will be responsible for providing advanced computer systems support and ensuring the smooth operation of our data centers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform and direct Rack and Stack duties for server, network, and other data center hardware.
  • Implement and modify batch jobs schedules across the enterprise.
  • Repair, upgrade, and decommission data center hardware, including servers, network devices, and data center support infrastructure components.
  • Implement and audit cabling standards and best practices throughout the data center.
  • Assist in defining the Change Management Strategy and developing and implementing Change Management plans.
  • Contribute to and maintain relevant procedures and documentation.
  • Work with vendors to return damaged or defective devices.
  • Maintain inventory of all data center assets using DCIM products.
  • Use DCIM products to track relevant data center metrics and generate monthly reports.
  • Work with vendors to support various third-party applications.
  • Review and make suggestions regarding the procurement of information technology equipment.
  • Maintain records of daily data communication transactions, problems, remedial actions taken, and installation activities.
  • Establish and ensure appropriate security controls within the data center.
  • May function as the Data Center team lead in the absence of team lead staff members.
Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited two-year college or university with a major in Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Minimum of two plus years' experience working within similar IT operations or data center environment.
  • Minimum of two years' experience of Rack and Stack procedures.
  • Knowledge of batch scheduling in a mixed environment is a plus.
  • Valid driver's license from the state of residence.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with personal computers, information management, server and network hardware, Windows/Linux administration, and DCIM products.
  • Ability to learn new software tools and programs to aid in monitoring the data center.
  • Familiarity with ticketing systems and understanding the importance of documenting tasks performed.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Environment: Office, data center (cold temperatures).
  • Ambulatory skills, e.g. stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, and crouch.
  • Hand-eye coordination and arm/hand/finger dexterity.
  • Ability to speak, hear, smell, and exercise visual acuity.
  • Ability to transfer weights of sixty (60) pounds anticipated for this position.
  • Driving requirements: Occasional (up to 5%).
