Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Data Center Systems Support Specialist to join our team at the Texas Department of Public Safety. As a key member of our IT operations team, you will be responsible for providing advanced technical support for our agency's information technology systems and data center infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical support for data center hardware, including servers, network devices, and infrastructure components.
  • Implement and modify batch job schedules across the enterprise, ensuring seamless operation of critical systems.
  • Repair, upgrade, and decommission data center hardware, ensuring minimal downtime and optimal performance.
  • Develop and implement cabling standards and best practices throughout the data center, training others in necessary skills.
  • Assist in defining and implementing change management strategies, ensuring smooth transitions and minimal disruption to operations.
  • Contribute to and maintain relevant procedures and documentation, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Work with vendors to return damaged or defective devices, ensuring timely resolution and minimal disruption to operations.
  • Maintain inventory of data center assets, using DCIM products to track relevant metrics and generate reports.
  • Use DCIM products to monitor data center environment, ensuring optimal performance and minimal downtime.
  • Support various third-party applications, including Windows/Linux server administration and ticketing systems.
  • Review and make recommendations regarding the procurement of information technology equipment, ensuring alignment with agency needs and budget.
  • Maintain records of daily data communication transactions, problems, and remedial actions taken.
  • Establish and ensure adherence to security controls within the data center, ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of sensitive information.
  • May function as team lead in the absence of the team lead staff member, providing guidance and oversight to team members.
Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited two-year college or university with a major in Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Minimum of two years' experience working within similar IT operations or data center environment, with a minimum of two years' experience in rack and stack procedures.
  • Knowledge of batch scheduling in a mixed environment is a plus, but not required.
  • Valid driver's license from the state of residence.
  • Working knowledge of TXDPS, State, and Federal regulations, legislation, guidelines, policies, and procedures.
  • Appropriate levels of proficiency with utilized software and systems, with the ability to learn new software and systems.
  • Experience with personal computers, Information Management, server and network hardware, Windows/Linux administration, and DCIM products such as Aperture and Struxureware.
  • Ability to learn new software tools and programs to aid in monitoring the data center, DCIM, camera, and cooling systems.
  • Familiarity with ticketing systems, understanding the importance of documenting tasks performed.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Ability to exercise poise, tact, diplomacy, and establish and maintain positive, working/professional relationships with internal/external customers.
  • Organized, flexible, and able to effectively prioritize in a multi-demand and constantly changing environment.
  • Ability to construct and deliver clear, concise, and professional presentations to a variety of audiences and/or individuals.
  • Ability to quickly and efficiently access relevant information, and be able to utilize and/or present research and conclusions in a clear and concise manner.
  • Keen awareness and commitment to providing excellent customer service, demonstrating a positive approach to providing assistance and striving for optimal outcomes.
  • Ability to examine data/information, discern variations/similarities, and be able to identify trends, relationships, and causal factors, as well as grasp issues, draw accurate conclusions, and solve problems.
  • Ability to responsibly handle sensitive and confidential information and situations, and adhere to applicable laws/statutes/policies related to access, maintenance, and dissemination of information.
  • Ability to work in a safe manner at all times, avoiding shortcuts that have potential adverse results/risks, and comply with safety standards and best practices.
