Job Summary

The Registered Nurse will develop and maintain an effective, system-wide infection control program within the facility. Monitors and evaluates prevalence of healthcare associated infections. Supports teamwork essential for compliance accrediting and regulatory agency standards through surveillance, effective prevention and control activities specific to a variety of practice settings, and accurate report.

Responsibilities
  • Develops and implements program initiatives, policies, and education related to infection prevention for employees and clients/patients.
  • Collaborates with the medical department, therapy department, nursing department, and others to incorporate nursing processes into the plan of care for our patient population.
  • Provides both classroom and real-time clinical learning opportunities for new healthcare team members and existing healthcare team members.
  • Coordinates with other Facility and Corporate staff as needed to review, develop, and implement changes to policies and procedures, electronic health records, and job-aids.
  • Develops educational curricula for AAC staff/departments meeting AAC standards, accreditation requirements, and state and federal regulations.
  • Implements educational curricula for AAC staff in both classroom and real-time clinical settings as needed to achieve satisfactory outcomes.
  • Evaluates adoption of educational curricula into workflows and practices by AAC staff and provides appropriate follow-up as needed.
  • Coordinates with nursing leaders and nursing preceptors to evaluate progress of new hire nurses.
  • Performs research to aid in development of educational material/courses, assist with policy and procedure development, and enhance practices of care and safety performed by AAC staff.
  • Maintains knowledge of best-practices, evidenced-based research, accreditation requirements, and scopes of practice.
  • Establishes practice of Grand Rounds for continued education of AAC staff.
  • Develops patient care plans, incorporating evidenced-based research and national standards; consults with and serves as a resource to ensure quality client care.
  • Educates appropriate AAC staff in the use of equipment, supplies, and resources through classroom and real-time learning opportunities.
  • Provides direct specialized nursing services to an assigned group of clients, providing specialized patient care within nursing protocols and assisting in the performance of all related nursing duties.
  • Maintaining a clean and safe environment.
  • Following Universal Precautions and Infection Control Procedures.
  • Ability to establish communication with appropriate sources in response to emergency situations.
  • Providing for and respecting the patient's privacy and confidentiality.
  • Notifying appropriate persons promptly of unusual reactions and changes in conditions.
  • Documenting all pertinent information appropriately.
  • Receiving and giving report.
  • Safeguarding and inventorying equipment and supplies.
  • Demonstrating courteous, cooperative, and respectful behavior.
  • With the education and/or documented skills, may perform certain treatments/procedures, provided that the institution's policies and the state/provincial regulatory acts allow their performance such as venipuncture and initiation and/or administration of IV therapy.
  • Ability to obtain information and interpret this information in terms of the client/patient's needs.
  • Knowledge of growth and development.
  • Assess and interpret age-specific data.
  • Understand of the range of treatments needed by these patients and possess the skills to perform the treatments.
