Job Overview

Objective

To oversee the installation, configuration, maintenance, and repair of both field and laboratory instrumentation utilized in production environments. The instrumentation may function independently or be integrated with control systems. This role supports the design, programming, and specification of equipment, as well as the execution of project-related instrumentation and control hardware.

Key Responsibilities

- Ensure adherence to relevant policies and procedures.
- Leverage engineering expertise to guarantee that instrumentation and control system hardware in biologics manufacturing facilities are accurately specified, installed, programmed, and operate according to design specifications.
- Conduct regular evaluations of instrument performance to determine the need for replacements or upgrades. Maintain top-tier equipment and instrumentation within the manufacturing environment.
- Diagnose and resolve issues related to analog/digital hardware in process control systems and instrumentation, including distributed control systems (DCS) and programmable logic controllers (PLC).
- Comfortable working with both low (24Vdc) and high (120V, 480V) electrical systems.

- Collaborate with calibration technicians to identify instrument and hardware problems. Complete the setup and testing of new instruments before they are sent to metrology for initial calibration.

- Proficient in reading P&ID and troubleshooting electrical schematics.

- Familiarity with the setup and troubleshooting of Variable Frequency Drives (VFD) and/or Servo drives, particularly Allen-Bradley systems, is advantageous.

- Knowledge of bus protocols such as HART, Foundation Fieldbus, DeviceNet, Profibus, and Ethernet IP is essential.

- Possess a working knowledge of analytical instrumentation, including High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), Gas Chromatography (GC), Mass Spectrometry (MS), and Ultra-Violet Visible Spectroscopy (UV-Vis), along with other industrial analytical instruments used in biologics manufacturing (pH, Dissolved Oxygen, Temperature, Conductivity).

- Assist engineering teams in developing functional specifications for control programming on major equipment systems, including the design of process control systems.

- Effectively communicate, document, and schedule all work activities.

- Responsible for maintaining instrumentation and control equipment in a validated environment, including all GxP areas. Must communicate the status of job activities to management and relevant production, maintenance, and engineering personnel.
