Job Overview:

The Level II CNC Machinist, working under direct supervision, is tasked with loading and unloading components while operating 2-5 axis CNC milling and lathe machinery to fabricate intricate aerospace components.

This role involves conducting in-process inspections of machined items, necessitating foundational skills in shop mathematics, utilization of hand measuring instruments, and meticulous documentation.

Additionally, the Level II machinist will perform basic deburring tasks and engage in routine preventative maintenance of machinery, which encompasses monitoring coolant and lubrication levels as well as ensuring cleanliness in the work area.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Receive job assignments from the supervisor or manager.
  • Adhere to safety protocols in compliance with plant safety regulations.
  • Follow quality assurance processes, including in-process inspections to meet quality standards.
  • Load and unload products and fixtures on designated CNC machines.
  • Execute machining tasks based on technical drawings and written instructions.
  • Apply basic mathematical skills to accurately measure and document dimensions.
  • Ensure the quality of parts produced, utilizing standard and customer-specific measuring tools for dimensional verification.
  • Conduct visual inspections of machined components.
  • Determine the pass or fail status of parts in the Quality Management System (QMS).
  • Report any nonconforming parts to the shift lead, supervisor, or engineering team.
  • Maintain machinery in good working order by performing daily preventative maintenance checks and reporting any irregularities.
  • Keep the workspace organized and clean in accordance with 6S standards.
  • Facilitate communication between shifts regarding necessary actions, irregularities, and ongoing requirements.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing on first piece acceptance and halt processes when defective parts are identified.
  • Undertake additional tasks as assigned by the supervisor or manager.

Qualifications:

  • Proficient in basic English and capable of reading, interpreting, and following work orders and planning instructions.
  • Familiarity with basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel).
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with team members.
  • Must be able to pass any customer-required testing or machining specifications relevant to their roles.
  • Competence in following both verbal and written instructions and translating them into actionable tasks.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively under deadlines.
  • Keen attention to detail.
  • Basic mathematical proficiency, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and fractions.
  • Eagerness to learn and develop new skills.
High school diploma or GED is required; a CNC operator/machinist diploma or certification is preferred. A degree in Machine Tool Technology is advantageous.

Working Environment:

  • Continuous exposure to an indoor manufacturing setting.
  • Regular exposure to moderate noise levels.
  • Working conditions may involve confined spaces, dust, fumes, odors, temperature variations, and standing on concrete for extended periods.
  • Must be available to work any shift, including overtime, weekends, and holidays as required.

Physical Demands:

  • Required to wear all necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Must be able to lift up to 35 lbs. as needed.
  • Frequent standing and walking throughout the workday.
  • Ability to reach with hands and arms and operate multiple controls simultaneously.
  • High visual concentration is necessary for precision measuring and monitoring cutting operations.
  • Regular use of physical skills to operate various machines and tools while adhering to close tolerances.
  • Must have the ability to frequently reach with hands and arms and manipulate materials.
  • Constant use of hands and fingers for grasping, pinching, pulling, and manipulating parts and tools.
  • Frequent repetitive motions required.
  • Specific vision abilities needed include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Consistent requirement to wear eye protection as per industry standards.
