Your Role

As a vital member of our Engineering team, you will engage in data analysis and formulate implementation strategies aimed at enhancing production processes.

Your focus will be on identifying opportunities to improve efficiencies by minimizing waste, which directly influences our operational costs.

Your contributions are essential to the production of renowned brands such as Smithfield, Eckrich, and Nathan's Famous, ensuring we meet the expectations of our customers and consumers.


The Engineering Project Manager utilizes scientific and mathematical principles to design and execute technical projects within the pork and packaged meat sector.

This position involves leading a team of junior engineers on large-scale, intricate projects, working independently while receiving guidance only in the most complex scenarios. Your expertise will be instrumental in recognizing potential threats and trends, allowing you to proactively devise solutions.

Core Responsibilities

Design and Development
• Create preliminary engineering designs and material specifications.
• Develop project cost estimates.
• Conduct design work, including data research and feasibility studies.
• Establish design criteria in line with required standards and codes for assigned projects.
• Validate fieldwork and convert completed projects into as-built documentation.
• Review engineering projects submitted by plants for accuracy and sound engineering principles.
• Oversee project execution by directing equipment vendors and contractors.
• Coordinate project installation timelines with plant personnel, vendors, and contractors.
• Collaborate with management and engineering teams to implement strategies and recommendations.

Implementation and Coordination
• Direct equipment vendors in planning layouts and ensuring compliance with utility requirements while maintaining installation schedules.
• Review consultants' submissions and suggest modifications as necessary.
• Maintain comprehensive documentation, including equipment manuals, mechanical/electrical drawings, and vendor contact information.

Reporting and Administration
• Conduct engineering planning and operational reviews during pre-project assessments.
• Define project scope, prepare requests for proposals, and evaluate submissions.
• Submit management reports by established deadlines.

Bid Review and Project Preparation
• Manage contract administration, including bid package reviews.
• Prepare project documentation, including justifications, budget analyses, and schedules.
• Monitor installations to ensure compliance with proposal specifications and budget constraints.
• Oversee budget activities as assigned.

Qualifications

To excel in this position, candidates must meet the following requirements:


• A Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or a related field from an accredited institution, coupled with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

• At least 2 years of leadership experience, including team development and management.
• Familiarity with engineering principles and techniques relevant to food processing and the meat industry is preferred.
• Ability to apply sound engineering principles to operational and design challenges.
• Knowledge of project scheduling for installation and construction.
• Strong project management and contract administration skills, with experience managing large-scale projects being desirable.
• Proficiency in engineering economics, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, along with strong organizational and analytical abilities.
• Ability to collaborate effectively in a fast-paced environment and build positive working relationships.
• Willingness to travel, including extended overnight stays.

Supervisory Responsibilities


This position may lead a team of engineers and provide training and guidance to Associate Engineers, Project Engineers, and Senior Project Engineers.
