Job Overview

Petra Construction Corporation is seeking a seasoned Construction Superintendent to oversee commercial construction projects in New Haven County. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.

Responsibilities
  • Manage and coordinate construction activities, including scheduling, budgeting, and resource allocation;
  • Supervise and train construction staff, ensuring they have the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their duties effectively;
  • Inspect work in progress to ensure compliance with company policies, industry standards, and regulatory requirements;
  • Coordinate with subcontractors, suppliers, and other stakeholders to ensure timely delivery of materials and services;
  • Prepare and review project schedules, budgets, and reports to ensure accurate tracking and forecasting;
  • Develop and implement safety protocols to minimize risks and ensure a safe working environment;
  • Collaborate with project managers and other team members to ensure seamless project execution;
  • Maintain accurate records and reports, including project documentation, time sheets, and inventory management;
  • Participate in quality control and assurance activities to ensure projects meet company standards;
  • Stay up-to-date with industry developments, best practices, and regulatory changes to maintain expertise and knowledge.
Requirements
  • Minimum 10 years' experience as a construction superintendent on commercial projects;
  • High school graduate/GED;
  • Experience in constructing new buildings from out-of-the-ground through close-out preferred;
  • Experience renovating existing structures from demolition through close-out;
  • Prior healthcare facility and laboratory renovation experience desired;
  • Effective time management skills;
  • Capable of reading, understanding, and analyzing construction drawings and specifications;
  • Ability to plan, schedule, and lay out work for employees;
  • Capable of reading, understanding, and implementing project schedules;
  • Coordinate, schedule, and oversee subcontractors;
  • Schedule and accept job site deliveries;
  • Maintain inventory of Petra-purchased materials;
  • Process paperwork as required by company policies and applicable contracts;
  • Prepare and/or oversee the preparation of record/as-built drawings;
  • Effective communicator and company representative who has the ability to work with owners, field personnel, and project management staff;
  • Self-perform interior fit-up work and temporary protection measures when needed;
  • Technology skills: Ability to generate and review records, reports, and emails using a laptop computer or tablet and mobile phone;
  • Ability to inspect work in progress;
  • Strong safety record;
  • OSHA 10 required, OSHA 30 preferred;
  • CPR/First Aid certification preferred.
