Job Summary

The Continuous Improvement Specialist is responsible for optimizing packaging activities to ensure efficient and safe production, meeting company specifications and schedules. This includes kegging, bottling, canning, and warehousing operations. The ideal candidate must be able to work any shift in a 24-hour period.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain excellent quality of packaged beer by evaluating performance and implementing improvements to procedures, equipment, or work practices.
  • Identify and eliminate inefficiencies in production areas, including the bottle line, can line, keg line, and mixed pack lines.
  • Perform data analysis to prevent and predict failures, and maintain a comprehensive kegging, bottling, and canning infrastructure.
  • Represent leadership on the production line during packaging runs and machine changeovers, and observe equipment operation to prevent/diagnose potential problems.
  • Determine root cause of equipment failures and implement improvements to machines or procedures to eliminate future failures.
  • Accurately complete and update information forms and logs, and understand and follow safety rules, including safe lifting practices and safe machine operation.
  • Understand and process overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) data and implement changes to improve machine performance and increase OEE.
  • Design and develop packaging tests to validate new procedures or techniques to improve the packaging process.
  • Work in all assigned areas of packaging at an advanced level, perform relief duties when required, and assist with the training and onboarding of new employees.
  • Create standard operating procedures (SOPs) for new procedures as needed, and provide mentoring and coaching to Associate Manufacturing Technicians.
  • Perform intermediate-level preventative maintenance (PM's) on packaging equipment, and assist Maintenance and Engineering on all emergency equipment repairs.
  • Develop and implement new PM procedures for existing and new packaging equipment, and manage more difficult packaging projects as identified by the Senior Packaging Manager.
  • Oversee all internal technical packaging projects assigned to Assistant Manufacturing Technicians, and submit ideas for improvement of equipment and processes to support continuous improvement.
  • Provide guidance to packaging technicians regarding best practices, optimal use of department tools, and proper techniques, and develop and implement a strategy for packaging equipment.
Requirements
  • Education: High School diploma or GED required, but Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university preferred.
  • Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Forklift certification and Lean Manufacturing, 6 Sigma green belt or higher, Manufacturing Specialist certification preferred but not required.
  • Experience: At least 4 years of related experience and/or training in a high-speed manufacturing environment, preferably beverage packaging (beer, soda, milk, or water).
  • Computer Skills: Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook, and Ignition program and AX knowledge is a plus.
  • Language Skills: Must be able to effectively communicate in English, both verbally and written.
