Key Responsibilities:

The Respiratory Therapist I is responsible for delivering both routine and advanced respiratory care to patients across various age groups, including adults, pediatrics, and neonates. This role encompasses working in critical care environments, provided that appropriate training is received. The therapist will undertake tasks and projects as directed by supervisory personnel, including the Director, Assistant Director, Clinical Specialist, and Shift Supervisor.

Under the guidance of senior clinical staff, the Respiratory Therapist will be accountable for providing sophisticated respiratory care during patient treatment and transport. Following completion of supervised clinical training, the therapist will employ advanced practice skills in the management of patient care.

Educational and Training Opportunities:

This position offers educational opportunities, including the training of new staff members and in-service training on new technologies and methodologies. Excellent customer service, effective communication, and public relations are essential components of this role. Flexibility to work in various areas of the healthcare system and to accommodate rotating shifts is required.

Compensation: $60.98 per hour

Qualifications:

Mandatory for NICU Department:

  • A minimum of two years of experience in a NICU setting.
  • Experience with high-frequency ventilators, specifically HFOV or HFJV.
  • Willingness to work with both adult and pediatric populations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Recent experience in intubating neonates within the past year.
  • Proficiency in utilizing oscillators and nitric oxide therapy for neonates.

Educational Background:

  • Graduate of an accredited two-year Respiratory Therapy program.
  • Associate's degree in Respiratory Therapy or a related field is required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Respiratory Therapy or a related field is preferred.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • RCP State License in California is required.
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) certification from the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) is required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association is required.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification is required.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification is preferred/required for NICU.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification is preferred.

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to perform the following physical activities:

  • Stand or walk for 75% of a 12-hour work shift.
  • Engage in sitting, pushing, kneeling, crouching, and reaching for extended periods.
  • Transfer patients weighing at least 100 lbs. with assistance or equipment.
  • Lift, push, pull, and carry a minimum of 35 lbs.
