Job Summary

SSM Health is seeking a skilled Surgical First Assistant to join our team. As a Surgical First Assistant, you will play a critical role in assisting surgeons during various surgical procedures, ensuring the highest level of patient care and safety.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist surgeons with surgical procedures, utilizing advanced knowledge of surgical techniques and instruments.
  • Provide exposure of the operative site, using retractors and other instruments, and through suctioning and sponging.
  • Suture tissue with precision, using the appropriate suture materials and techniques.
  • Anticipate and plan individualized care based on advanced knowledge of the surgical procedure and anticipate unexpected patient and surgeon needs.
  • Prepare equipment, supplies, and resource needs based on an individualized plan of care.
  • Implement a plan of care that incorporates physician-prescribed treatments, nursing assessments, and diagnostic data.
  • Utilize critical judgment to analyze patient assessment data and develop an appropriate plan of care.
Requirements
  • Associate's degree or clinical certification.
  • Three years of experience in a surgical setting.
  • Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (BLS HCP) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Certified First Assistant (CFA) or Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA) certification from the American Board of Surgical Assistants (ABSA) or the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA).
