Blood Collection Specialist

The Blood Collection Specialist is responsible for collecting quality blood samples from patients and preparing those specimens for lab testing while following established practices and procedures. This role requires direct contact with patients, creating an atmosphere of trust and confidence while explaining procedures and drawing blood specimens in a skillful, safe, and accurate manner.
Key Responsibilities- Collect blood samples from patients using aseptic techniques and following established protocols
- Prepare specimens for lab testing, including labeling and packaging
- Communicate effectively with patients, explaining procedures and answering questions
- Maintain a safe and professional environment, adhering to infection control and safety protocols
- Perform verification of patient demographic information and initials, including patient signature post-venipuncture
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Medical training: medical assistant or paramedic training preferred
- Phlebotomy certification
- 3 years phlebotomy experience required, inclusive of pediatric, geriatric, and capillary collections
- Minimum 2 years in a Patient Service Center environment preferred
- Customer service in a retail or service environment preferred
