Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled Medical Laboratory Technician/Scientist to join our Blood Bank team at Prisma Health. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for conducting routine and stat laboratory tests for use in diagnosis and treatment of disease, and performing related duties.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform analyses using appropriate procedures with precision and accuracy, operating instruments and equipment accurately, and evaluating results obtained from patient and QC samples to assure validity before reporting values.
  • Use correct technique, policy, and protocol in collection and process of all specimens, verifying ID of patient, specimen, and results, and properly labeling specimens with appropriate information.
  • Instruct new employees, students, and residents at the bench in procedure, technique, and theory, documenting proficiency utilizing individual checklists, and informing section leader or section manager in a timely manner of problems noted in an individual's training process.
  • Restock items in use, maintaining work area in a clean, orderly manner, documenting consistently receipt and opening of supplies, and monitoring expiration dates of all supplies and reagents and following established protocol.
  • Review pending log, OSR, worksheets, etc. for accuracy and completeness of work, taking appropriate action as needed, and assuring proper retention of all specimens for their designated time.
  • Observe and respond correctly and immediately to safety violations and safety drills, reporting and documenting immediately personal exposure to hazardous or infectious situations, and using lab biosafety levels, universal precautions guidelines, and available safety equipment when needed.
  • Employ good organizational talents and prioritize tasks, utilizing time efficiently, reporting results in a timely manner, and consistently observing meal and break periods according to workload and schedule.
  • Report critical values according to Laboratory policy and document verbal reports.
  • Document personal CE attendance and presentations.
  • Complete all objectives from previous evaluation.
  • Complete all required 6-month and annual competencies in required time frame with documentation in personnel file.

Requirements:

  • Associate's Degree or equivalent Medical Laboratory Technology Program Degree that meets ASCP or AMT requirements.
  • None required.
  • None required.
  • In lieu of Bachelor's degree in combination with a certificate/diploma in Medical Laboratory Science or completion of a 50 week U.S. military medical laboratory training course (per DD214).

Work Environment:

Evening shift at Prisma Health's Baptist Hospital.
