Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Cost Accountant to join our team at Ledgent Finance & Accounting. The successful candidate will be responsible for analyzing manufacturing operations, monitoring cost variances, and ensuring accurate reporting of production costs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Cost Analysis
    • Analyze actual production costs and prepare periodic cost reports comparing standard costs to actual production costs.
    • Review and report on manufacturing variances, including labor, material, and overhead costs.
    • Work closely with production teams to understand cost drivers and suggest areas for improvement.
  • Inventory Management
    • Monitor and reconcile inventory accounts, ensuring accuracy in the recording of inventory movements, adjustments, and valuations.
    • Conduct regular inventory audits and cycle counts to validate inventory balances and ensure proper control over inventory.
  • Standard Costing
    • Develop and maintain standard costs for products and services.
    • Ensure that standard costs are updated in the accounting system to reflect changes in production processes or material costs.
    • Analyze cost discrepancies and propose adjustments as needed.
  • Budgeting and Forecasting
    • Assist in the preparation of budgets and forecasts by providing detailed cost analysis and estimates.
    • Support the finance team in preparing cost projections for new products or changes in production processes.
  • Month-End Close
    • Perform month-end close activities related to cost accounting, including journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations.
    • Prepare cost of goods sold (COGS) reports and ensure accurate financial reporting of manufacturing activities.
  • Financial Reporting and Analysis
    • Prepare detailed financial reports on production costs, margin analysis, and inventory valuation.
    • Provide management with financial insights on cost-saving opportunities and operational efficiencies.
  • Cross-Department Collaboration
    • Work closely with production, procurement, and logistics teams to ensure accurate costing and inventory management.
    • Collaborate with management to develop cost control strategies and evaluate the financial impact of operational decisions.
  • Compliance and Internal Controls
    • Ensure compliance with internal policies and procedures as well as external regulations.
    • Maintain strong internal controls over costing and inventory management processes.
  • Process Improvement
    • Continuously evaluate and improve costing procedures and processes.
    • Implement best practices in cost accounting to improve efficiency and accuracy.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 3+ years of cost accounting experience, preferably in manufacturing or a similar industry.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles, particularly in cost accounting and inventory management.
  • Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite) and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA, CMA, or progress toward certification is a plus.
  • Experience with ERP systems and data analysis tools.
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing practices or other process improvement methodologies.
