Custodial Law Enforcement Officer

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Custodial Law Enforcement Officer to join our team at The Richmond County Sheriff's Office. As a key member of our institution, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and security of inmates, as well as maintaining a clean and organized environment within the jail.
Key Responsibilities- Process inmates into the institution, including searching prisoners and managing personal property
- Provide inmates with the opportunity to call attorneys or relatives, and advise them on institutional rules and regulations
- Patrol the jail area to maintain security and order, and transport inmates to medical facilities, courts, and other related locations
- Supervise inmates during meals, personal hygiene, and other activities to ensure compliance with institutional rules
- Perform general clerical duties, including preparing records and reports, and maintaining accurate documentation
- A High School Diploma or equivalent is required; a college degree or completion of the Accuplacer, ASSET, COMPASS, SAT, ACT, CPE, or other equivalent exams is necessary for those seeking to transition to a police officer role
- Ability to enforce institutional rules firmly and fairly, and to detect potential behavior problems in inmates
- Ability to detect early symptoms of common health problems, and to carry out oral and written directions accurately
- Ability to supervise large groups of inmates, and to prepare records and reports
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and inmates
