Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to fill the role of Deputy Jailer at The Richmond County Sheriff's Office. As a Deputy Jailer, you will be responsible for ensuring the care and security of inmates at the County Jail.

Key Responsibilities
  • Process inmates, maintain jail security, serve meals, and transport inmates.
  • Search prisoners, take charge of personal property, and provide inmates with the opportunity to call their attorney or relative.
  • Patrol the jail area to ensure security and maintain order, and transport inmates to medical, court, and related facilities.
  • Supervise inmates during meals, personal hygiene, and related activities, and escort and safeguard inmates to their cells.
  • Receive, count, record, and wash all laundry in the jail, and dispense personal and cell cleaning equipment.
  • Distribute medication to inmates as prescribed, prepare routine records on inmates, and perform general clerical duties.
  • Ensure the care and maintenance of quarters, record visits, inspect items brought into the jail, and check incoming and outgoing mail.
  • Investigate crimes and critical incidents, collect evidence, make arrests, and testify in court.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or its recognized equivalent.
  • Ability to enforce institutional rules firmly and fairly, detect potential behavior problems of inmates, and detect the early symptoms of common health problems.
  • Ability to carry out oral and written directions accurately, supervise the activities of large groups of inmates, and prepare records and reports.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates.
