Code Enforcement Officer I

At the City of Augusta GA, we are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Code Enforcement Officer I to join our team. As a Code Enforcement Officer I, you will play a critical role in ensuring compliance with property maintenance, minimum housing standards, ordinances, and land use regulations.
Key Responsibilities:- Enforce minimum housing standards, minimum maintenance standards for commercial buildings, environmental codes, abandoned or derelict properties, land development regulations, occupational licensing, and related codes and ordinances.
- Identify and address code violations, working closely with zoning and building staff to safeguard existing and new developments throughout the county.
- Correspond with citizens, HOAs, and business and property owners in a tactful manner, exercising initiative and judgment to resolve issues.
- Maintain records of enforcement activities, enter data into computer systems, and conduct records maintenance activities in compliance with guidelines.
- Investigate complaints, enforce city codes and ordinances, and prepare cases for code enforcement hearings in civil court.
- Stay up-to-date with applicable codes, ordinances, regulations, and standards, as well as code enforcement methods, practices, trends, and advances in the profession.
- High School diploma or GED.
- Three years of work experience, including at least one year in code enforcement, zoning, blight remediation, real estate, property maintenance, building inspections, law enforcement, or plan review.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
