Job Title: Crisis Hotline Advocate

About the Role:

The Bay Area Women's Center is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Crisis Hotline Advocate to join our team. As a Crisis Hotline Advocate, you will play a critical role in providing immediate assistance to survivors of domestic and sexual violence, ensuring they feel heard, supported, and directed towards the necessary resources and services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Respond to crisis phone calls with empathy and understanding, providing emotional support and guidance to survivors in need.
  • Perform client intakes, ensuring accurate and confidential documentation of client information.
  • Assist residential clients with completing documentation, including applications for employment, education, and income-related goals.
  • Provide support and mediation for communal living issues in the residential program, promoting a safe and healthy environment for all residents.
  • Support other residential staff in meeting clients' needs, ensuring a comprehensive and supportive approach to care.
  • Promote healthy living within the shelter, overseeing meals, record-keeping, and resident assistance.
  • Attend in-service training to enhance knowledge and professional development, staying up-to-date on best practices and industry developments.
  • Assist with shelter housekeeping duties, maintaining a clean and safe environment for residents.
  • Ensure confidentiality and accuracy of client records, adhering to strict data protection protocols.
  • Track and complete data entry related to services provided, compiling and maintaining statistical data to inform program development and evaluation.

Requirements:

  • Associate's degree or 60 credit hours in human services, social work, or psychology preferred.
  • Consideration may be given to individuals with at least three years of relevant work experience.
  • Knowledge and experience with domestic violence, sexual assault, and crisis intervention preferred.
  • Demonstrate self-leadership, compassion, and empathy, with excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Computer skills and experience with Microsoft Excel, Access, and Word required.
  • Able to work independently or in groups, with organizational skills and flexibility to adapt to changing situations.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays, with the ability to multitask in high-pressure situations.
  • Able to work with a diverse population in a non-judgmental, empowering manner, promoting a culture of respect and inclusivity.
  • Able to safely operate office machines and shelter appliances/equipment, with the ability to lift 20 pounds on occasion.
  • Able to travel within the service area and the state, with a valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Successful candidates are subject to Central Registry Clearance and criminal background screening.
