Job Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Veterans Advocate to join our team at WestCare Foundation. As a key member of our supportive services team, you will play a vital role in ensuring the well-being and success of our veteran clients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct outreach and coordinate referrals from other agencies and institutions to provide comprehensive support services to veterans.
  • Schedule appointments with veterans to determine eligibility and accompany them to appointments and community activities.
  • Participate in the SWOT Team and coordinate community events to promote awareness and support for veteran services.
  • Manage emergency drills and documentation in accordance with company policies and accreditation requirements.
  • Attend scheduled meetings, speaking engagements, and presentations with referral agencies as required.
  • Build partnerships with VSOs and social services to increase veterans' access to benefits and services.
  • Work closely with Iowa Legal Aid to assist veterans with legal issues.
  • Provide case management and coordinate additional assessments, VA medical appointments, and other services as needed.
  • Conduct outreach activities, referrals, housing, employment, and financial assistance services to support veterans' success.
  • Assist veterans in obtaining permanent housing and employment or training programs.
  • Represent WestCare Foundation at conferences and other meetings to promote our services and support for veterans.
  • Provide crisis intervention and support services in accordance with WestCare procedures.
  • Oversee and coordinate tasks related to follow-up services, educational needs, vocational needs, and discharge planning.
Requirements
  • A Bachelor's Degree with a minimum of two years of related experience in case management and care coordination or an Associate's Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, or a related field with a minimum of one year of case management experience.
  • Having served in the military is a plus, and experience working with veterans and/or the homeless population is preferred.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and discretion, operate a computer, and complete documents in Microsoft Word program formats or the ability to learn.
  • Ability to respond to crisis situations in an efficient manner, work well in a team environment, and adhere to the highest standard of ethical conduct.
  • Professional appearance and demeanor, cultural/linguistic sensitivity to populations served, and a valid driver's license and ability to obtain and maintain WestCare's vehicle insurance.
  • CPR Certification, First Aid Certification, and an annual Tuberculosis test are also required.
